birds - baby pigeon

Although I was told this is a baby pigeon when he was brought in, I’m still not entirely convinced.   He’s quite big for a baby bird, although very immature still.   He gets stronger by the day though and yesterday was a break through – he opened his beak to be fed for the first time.  It does make it a lot easier to just slide the food down.

Even at this young age he is intelligent and responsive, he knows my voice and likes to be picked up and cuddled.  It’s important to make a nest for a young bird and while grass is good and natural, paper towels are excellent, they’re soft, easy to dispose of and the fledglings seem to like the feel.   Settling into a round nest of soft paper makes them feel safe, they are warm also which is important when you don’t have many feathers!
