We never know what each day with bring and it isn’t all happy endings in the sanctuary.    We’re dedicated to helping people along with their animals and this week we helped out in a very sad case.   A gentleman who is elderly and in poor health had to make the difficult decision of whether it was right to keep his little dog going on.   We’d known this lovely little Westie for many years, she’d often come to stay with us, but now she was over 16 years old and her condition had deteriorated.

She was ill and epileptic and incontinent, there was no quality of life for her and her owner couldn’t cope either.   Facing up to the inevitable when you are not well yourself is very hard and when we were asked if we could help we agreed straight away.   She has been a grand little dog, very sweet natured and a faithful companion for her owner, who lives alone and who thought the world of her. There was just no way to make her well enough though.

Thinking about what’s best for the dog is the most important thing though and a day sooner is always better than a day later – we never want any pet to suffer.    So we arranged it so that Holly didn’t have to go to the vets – she stayed here with us and had a nice meal of her favourite corned beef and then we wrapped her in a blanket and cuddled her while the vet eased her away to her next life …..  over the Rainbow Bridge….. goodbye little friend….
