New Born Kittens - Cat-In-A-Box and Rushed Maternity Arrangements Print
Written by Pet Samaritans

We found this little cat in a box on our lane only yesterday.  She had to be a little girl because of her colouring - tortieshell cats are always female.   And, with a bulging tummy, there was no doubting that she was in kitten.  This is the probable reason she was left for us to find.   What we didn't know was when the new babies would arrive.

Within ten minutes of getting her out of box she began miaowing.   Was she hungry?  No.  Unsettled?  Definitely.   Was she about to give birth?   Yes, it was an emergency - no time to make a nest - it was a clean cardboard box, lots of newspaper, a clean sheet and she went straight in.   We left her a while to settle and get on with the birth.

A couple of hours later and there they were - four beautiful little baby kittens - three gingers and a tortie - just like mum.  Clever girl.   Wasn't it lucky that we found her when we did.    She is a devoted mother so far although looking a bit frazzled by her abandonment ordeal.  It's amazing that these active, fully furred and beautiful little babies are only 1 day old!

It's not often that we get ginger kittens and we'll  be looking for adopters in 9 weeks time, please let us know if you're interested - kittens can be reserved until they're ready.
