Happy Ending for Dinky-Doo (now called Gertie!)

Would anyone take on the care of an elderly dog with health problems?   You might not think so but in this great animal loving, caring world, there are some real Pet Samaritans. When a 'senior citizen' dog comes in as a stray it's usually for the rest of his or her life and St.Bernard's is sanctuary to a lot of elderly pets.  But tiny Dinky doo was special.  What she lacked in size she made up for in character, sweet natured, charming and full of spirit!   We really hoped that someone would take her home and provide knitted blankets and tea by the fireside for the rest of her days.

When two lovely people from quite a distance away came to visit and meet Dinky (now called Gertie) they were as charmed as we were by her personality and good manners.   It was a perfect match, Dinky took to them straight away and soon went home with them to meet the rest of the canine family.  It was heartwarming to receive the following letter this week:

Dear Pet Samaritans,

Just a quick note to let you know how Dinky is settling in.  She has a new name to go with her new life and 'Gertie' has settled wonderfully.  She is getting on well with the Dobes (these are rescued elderly Dobermans) and Abbie in particular is very protective of her.   She enjoyed a visit to our local pet shop where she now has quite a fan club, and loved our local park where she had a good run around.

We took Gertie to the vet for her MOT and she's having medication now for a slight heart murmur.  The vet doesn't think it should affect her too much.  She is eating well and gets very excited at meal times, she lets you know she's there, that's for sure! Gertie has fitted in really well, better than we could have hoped for, she is a lovely little lady and we are glad and honoured that she has adopted us as her family.

All the best, G. and S.

Thank you so much for letting us know and for adopting one of our rescued dogs.   All our rescued dogs would have been on 'Death Row' if not claimed or brought in to the sanctuary.

Donations, no matter how small, help us to care for them and are very much appreciated.

Gremlin (now called Sam)

This little chap is one of our Sanctuary favourites, settling down nicely in his new home.  Don't you just love those beautiful amber eyes.   Thanks to David and family for adopting 'Sam'.
