The Alsatian dog brought in this week is in a pitiful condition.  He has no body fat or muscle tone - he's weak and emaciated and can hardly stand.  His skin is in bad condition and he's covered in sores.  At first glance he looks like a really old dog at the end of his days - but this poor chap is only a youngster - no more than two years old.

He wants to stand up but he's just too weak.   Even his face is pinched and pointy and his eyes are the saddest ever.   There is a dull expression that says he's almost given up.   Another few days and it would have been too late.

But he is young and he's still got his appetite - he's wolfing down everything we give him - it has to be small meals and often because his stomach will have shrunk because of the lack of food.   And we've given him a medicated bath - which he didn't much like - it was necessary because of his skin condition or else we'd have waited until he was stronger.  

This fine looking dog has been starved and treated badly for a long time - he didn't get like this in just a few weeks.   But he's doing fine now and looking better already - it will be a slow recovery though.
