We'd like to have a Book Sale every month at the sanctuary. This is a good fundraising day - folk can buy bargain books and we enjoy meeting old and new friends. The downside is that it's expensive to advertise, even in local papers. We can put flyers out and leaflets but that's not cheap either and what if it rains? We don't as yet has much under cover space for book browsing, although we do have sheds we could refurbish but no spare funds to do this. If the weather's bad, no one comes and we've wasted the money. So we only have book sales at the Sanctuary occasionally, when the weather is better.
But we do have a bookshop online - it's in ABE books - www.abebooks.co.uk - you go to the site then search for Dog House Books - we have a couple of hundred books listed, it's very time consuming to put them on but unless you have thousands it doesn't work too well. The cost of putting them on outweighs the sales at the moment unfortunately but we live in hope. The
Reception at the sanctuary is overflowing with books and we're open for
book browsing every Saturday from 11.0 to 3.0pm. Or give us a
ring and check when we're in Reception and pop round. We are open
seven days a week but inevitably spend much of the time with the dogs,
cats, ponies etc.
We also have about six shelves of books in our unit at Sheffield Antiques Centre, Broadfield Road, Heeley. And a sale on at the moment - hardbacks £1.00 and paperbacks 50p. Lots of interesting titles and great bargains. The antique centre is open Monday to Saturday 10 to 5 and Sunday it's 11.0 to 4. A good coffee shop too! Because we have this super new website with the Yard Sale facility
- please check it out - we'll also be listing books on there starting
today. This is going to be our best option for the future -
because it doesn't cost us anything and you can browse away any time at home. We're aiming for same day postage out to you too.
Looking for any special title or subject? Please let us know and we'll booksearch for you. Rare and out of print and horse and dog books? We'll do our best.

We get hundreds of books donated to us at the Sanctuary.
Our thanks to all the kind people out there! Selling them is one
way
to raise money for the animals and our campaigns. In spite of all
the IT there are lots
of booklovers around aren't there? But without a book shop,
selling them isn't as easy as it sounds.
