We’d like you to say hello to our little ponies at the Pet Samaritans Animal Sanctuary in Derbyshire. We’ve been rescuing little and big horses for a long time, when they’ve gone lame, been neglected or cruelly treated. We’d like you to meet some of our little permanent residents at the Sanctuary.

When we saw a little red and white stallion with a badly injured shoulder in a cattle pen at a market some years ago, he was obviously in pain and looking very sorry for himself. No one wanted him and he was destined for the meat wagon – we had to save him and that was how Chester first came to live at the sanctuary.
A year later we rescued Chloe, who was tied up on an allotment with neither food nor water. She had a little foal at foot who was trying to suckle. Chloe was in too bad a condition to have milk for the baby. It was love at first sight for us and when we brought her back to the sanctuary our work started on saving the foal and getting them both back into good health. This was the start of the mini pony herd at the animal sanctuary and other little ponies were rescued and soon came to join them.
