Star story - Cinders needs Prince Charming!
Written by Pet Samaritans

This months star feature has to be Cinders - who'd been badly neglected before she first came in to us.   Isn't she lovely?   But wasn't she thin?   Yes, even for a super slim greyhound this young lady was way too skinny.  You could see all her ribs and her back bone - poor thing.   Cinderella now looks much better but what this affectionate and well behaved young dog needs is her very own Prince Charming to take good care of her - for the rest of her life.

We've had lots of happy endings over the past few weeks - thank you to all the lovely people who've adopted one of our dogs.  Fergie jumped into her new people's car as though she'd done it a hundred times before - a big smile on her face!  Sadly there are always many more dogs to take the place of those who pack their bags and leave us.   We now have lots more dogs featured on our dog adoption gallery.

Cassie and Moss  - beautiful Border Collies

(pics coming soon)   These are two super border collies who have been together since puppies.  They were left alone when their owner passed away and there was no one to look after them.   Cassie and Moss are well behaved, very good natured, clean and polite - a delightful couple.   Moss has been neutered so there is no danger of puppies.   Although they are middle aged they are both fit and active and enjoy a walk.   Very easy going and no trouble to look after.   These are rewarding and faithful companions who desperately want a new home.  Can you help?   Please come and meet them and perhaps take them out for a walk.

Dixon - the dashing Jack Russell

He's brown and white and full of life and fun.  Dixon is a small, smoothcoated Jack Russell who came in as a stray and was never claimed.   About a year old, loves humans, wants to be with you all the time and go a walk and play chasing balls and sticks.   Dixon is a faithfull little chap who was quite traumatized by being a 'stray' dog.   No one claimed him and he's been here quite a long time.   He's a bit excitable when he first comes to met you  - that's because he's so pleased to see everyone.  He'll settle down just fine when he has a new home.    He'd love to meet you.

Della - the delightful Greyhound

Tall, laid back and strikingly beautiful - Della is pure white with well marked dark brown pathches - you could pick this lovely lady out in any crowd.   Her temperament is to match, Della is laid back and well mannered.  Loves going out for a walk, but happy to be a couch potato when it suits you.   Della is clean and polite and very affectionate.   Greyhounds are some of the easiest dogs to look after and this young girl is no exception.   Della came in as a stray and had a companion with her - a little Jack Russell called Pippin.  While they are obvious friends and we'd love to re-home them together, they actually don't mind being split up.  Both are 'people' dogs and need a loving home as soon as possible.   If you'd like to take Della out for a walk, she would be very happy.

Pippin  -  the perfect Jack Russell

This little fella came in with Della, they were picked up running around a park together.  They weren't reported missing and were never claimed.   Pippin is small, smooth coated, tan and white, very handsome and with the most lovely amber eyes.   He's a little gem of a dog and very well behaved.   About a year old and as good as gold all the time he's been with us.   He'd love to meet you.

Shadow - long coated Shepherd x

Black and tan and small/medium sized, Shadow is a cross between ?   A collie x labrador x German Shepherd.    It's a good mix anyway and he is very handsome.   Not too big and with a lovely wavy coat.   We think that Shadow had been having a rough time before he came here - he cringed whenever anyone went near him and was very timid to start with.   All that is in the past and he's much more confident now - a very loving dog who likes to go out for a walk and is very well behaved.   He's about a year old, so he won't grown any more.  A 'proper' dog who will have always have a smile on his face when he gets a new home.    A nice long walk up the fields would hit the spot?   Any offers?

Romeo  - the brindle Whippet

Anyone would fall in love with this absolutely super stripey whippet.   He is so sleek and well marked, fawn background and black stripes, a very exotic looking chap and with a fabulous personality.   Young Romeo came in as a stray and amazingly was never claimed.   Like all whippets he insists on special treatment - a very comfy, warm bed (preferably yours), fine dining (human quality meat, chicken, fish, Royal Canin biscuits), a rain coat for bad weather (he doesn't like to get his stripes wet), a special soft leather whippet collar, lots of lounging around, an equal amount of walks and free running - this guy can really move!   Whippets are sensitive souls, exceptionally affectionate and intelligent but very easy to look after so long as one thing is straight right from the outset - they are the most important thing in your life. Got that?  You'll be alright.

Hi folks! We're waiting to meet you!

We've had a lot of dogs brought in over the past month.  Some are still in 'pet re-hab', other are taking a while to settle, some are poorly and emaciated.   BUT.....we have some absolutely great canine characters who are ready and waiting to go on to new homes.  These lovely dogs have been personality assessed and haven't put a paw wrong with us.  Please check out our adoption section if you are looking for a dog or know someone who is.

It's a common misconception that Christmas is the time of year when most dogs get 'dumped'.   In our experience it's the opposite.  The summer months are when the dogs are thrown out - left to stray, abandoned, even tied up and left to die, as one poor chap was recently.

There are so many other things occupying some people's minds.  Holidays, moving house, home renovations, allergies, vet bills - we get dogs brought in because they're sick and the owners can't afford vet treatment.  Other times it's because they've had a new carpet fitted and don't want dog hairs on it!

We keep all the dogs a while to see if they are claimed.  If not we're looking for new homes.  Our dogs will soon get you trained up to their satisfaction - 'mince and brown bread for tea please', 'could you move my basket a bit nearer the radiator', ''can't I go to the shops with you?'    Please get in touch if you can offer a new situation to one of our 'man's best friends'.   They really are you know.
